WhistlePig is a distillery and farm located in Shoreham, Vermont, founded in 2007 and known for cask maturation and finishing. The FarmStock series takes a different approach from the early releases of WhistlePig by not using 100% of the rye from Alberta Distillers but its own distillate and its own wood for maturation.

- 37% – Six-year-old Vermont Straight Rye aged in Char #4 barrels.
- 48% – Six-year-old Canadian Straight Rye aged in Char #3 barrels.
Tasting Notes for WhistlePig FarmStock Rye
Nose: Restrained aromas of cinnamon and clove with oak.
Palate: Sweet arrival of cinnamon, vanilla, and ginger, transitioning into an eruption of oak that starts to build from the mid-palate. The aromas do not prepare you for the development of oak from the mid-palate, which I find interesting. A few drops of water bring the buttery flavors such as Crème Brûlée.
Finish: Medium to long and spicy. The oak builds in the mid-palate and releases its power in the finish.
Conclusion: WhistlePig FarmStock is good rye whisky that builds up its spicy and oak flavors. This version might not be the most balanced of the ones I have tried, but it certainly delivers the one-two punch of spices and oak you can expect from relatively young rye.
For those who enjoy spicy whiskies, FarmStock should not disappoint, but don’t expect the complexity of a WhistlePig Boss Hog release. Kudos to WhistlePig for not settling with sourcing Canadian Rye, but blending its own distillate to create its own identity. Cheers!
