Glenmorangie is a brand of Single Malt Scotch Whisky made by the Glenmorangie distillery in Tain, Ross-Shire, Highlands. The parent company is Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, which owns the distillery since 2004.
The French luxury goods company also owns the Ardbeg distillery and an impressive portfolio of brands like Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon, Krug, and Veuve Clicquot Champagnes, along with Hennessy Cognac and Cloudy Bay and Château d’Yquem wines.
Glenmorangie Distillery is named after the Gaelic name “Glen of the Morangie Burn”, which means “Little Valley of Deep Tranquility. It was founded in 1843 and started operations in 1849.
The founders, brothers John, and William Matheson, owned the distillery and sold it to three parties in 1918. One of the owners, The McDonald family, bought the ownership of the other two parties and took control of the distillery until 2004 when it decided to sell it to LVMH.
Glenmorangie is known for its tall neck copper stills, long fermentations that result in fruity single malts, and pioneering cask finishing.
Notes for Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 Year Port Cask Finish
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban was released as a non-age-statement in 2007, then as a 12 Year Old in 2010, and lastly as a 14 Year Old malt in 2019. The primary maturation happens in ex-bourbon barrels from Missouri, USA. After ten years, the whisky ages four more years in Port Pipes sourced from the Ruban Estate (a.k.a. Quinta) in Portugal.
Nose: Aromas of candy, vanilla, chocolate and fruits.
Palate: A candy-like arrival with fruits, chocolate, and vanilla that develop into orange and bitter notes of toasted oak. The overall flavor profile is rich and sweet.
Finish: Medium with chocolate and oak spices.
Conclusion: Glenmorangie NAS was one of the first single malts I tasted and recognized for its candy-like flavors. This rich and easy-to-drink single malt makes the perfect after-dinner. No wonder it has been one of the best-selling single malts in Scotland since 1983. Highly recommended for those who like fruity whiskies. Slainte!
