A special release from Hiram Walker & Sons available at the distillery pays tribute to its founder John Philip Wiser (1825-1911). This expression brings back the original flavor profile and recipe of Mr. Wiser from 1857, a unique whisky available for those visiting the distillery in Windsor or living in Ontario. Tasting Notes for J.P. Wiser’s Red Letter Distillery Edition
Nose: Nice aromas of oak, vanilla, and Christmas spices (ginger and cinnamon).
Palate: A sweet and fruity arrival with baking spices develops into a nice rye and oak spicy flavor that complements the initial sweetness. Rich and complex. With water, more baking spices while the rye is toned down a little bit, but still very enjoyable. Very tasty.
Finish: Long with rich notes of caramel and oak.
Conclusion: A beautiful Canadian Whisky to share with your best friends and family on a special occasion and one of the best Canadian Whiskeys I have tried so far. Many thanks to Master Blender Dr. Don Livermore for recommending this expression before my distillery visit, a real treat. Cheers!
